The changes and improvements brought about by the SCBCH and its members, collectively, result in an improved healthcare system for the whole community. The Coalition serves as a partnership for businesses, organizations and individuals in South Carolina and inside the healthcare field to act collaboratively in creating sustainable initiatives to improve healthcare quality and efficiency, promoting greater consumer responsibility in healthcare decisions, improving the overall health of South Carolinians, and thereby improving our economic competitiveness and quality of life.
SCBCH works with South Carolina Hospitals to complete the Leapfrog Hospital Survey. The Leap- frog Hospital Survey is the gold standard for comparing hospitals‟ performance on the national standards of safety, quality, and efficiency that are most relevant to consumers and purchasers of care. Hospitals that participate in this survey achieve hospital-wide improvements that translate into millions of lives and dollars saved.
SCBCH uses the nationally recognized tool „eValue8‟ to encourage health plans to improve their quality processes in South Carolina.
Through a Pharmacy Benefit Management program, SCBCH introduced competitive pricing to South Carolina which resulted in millions of dollars saved on drug costs.
SCBCH hosts a variety of multi-stakeholder meetings and workshops to discuss quality improve- ment and value enhancement in health benefits.
SCBCH is partnering with local schools to create healthier behaviors among students both at school and at home. Healthy life-styles are more likely to be developed and maintained when ex- ercise and other healthy behaviors are learned early in life. This demonstration project has been based on a nationally recognized program that has achieved significant results in reversing the obesity trend among our nation‟s children. This program can be adopted and replicated in schools across South Carolina.
